Every city has its own lifestyle and if you want to feel the real vibes of a city, the best place to discover it are the city markets. So does the Chisinau. We will start our day with a visit to the Central Market, a huge open-air market that occupies several blocks within the city. Since 1825 this market has been the scene of lively price haggling for almost anything, including fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, and dairy products. The earlier in the morning you go, the fresher the products you get. And off course nothing can compare with the shopping at the market as well as the chatting with the local vendors. The price of everything is negotiable, so do not be afraid to bargain. So, here’s the deal! You will get 100 lei, a shopping list and a chance for an unforgettable experience.
Before leaving to our next destination outside the city, let’s take a look at Chisinau from above. We will be climbing the narrow spiral staircase of the old water tower. Built at the end of the XIX-th century after a project by Alexander Bernardazzi, it was a main part of Chisinau’s water system. Nowadays, the tower hosts the City History Museum. From its height of 22 meters, you will get great panoramic view of Chisinau.
With our baskets full, we will be traveling to one of the most popular places in Moldova – Orheiul Vechi. It is a cultural, historical and archaeological complex situated in a rocky gorge of the Raut River. This valley, shaped by the tireless river with a pristine natural landscape, features huge limestone outcroppings. There are several ancient monuments and buildings set in the valley, from various historical periods dating from the X century BC to the occupation of the Golden Horde in the XIV century. The Mongols have founded the Sehr al Djedid, the fortress which ruins you can wonder around today. Closer to the river waters you can find the ruins of an ancient Turkish bath. These ancient fortresses and early Christian monasteries are among the most unusual sights in all of Eastern Europe, and a museum at the site provides further information and exhibits. Here you will enjoy a walking tour and stop for delicious snacks at local guest houses.
By the end of the day, we will make our stop on the top of the hill where the fun will begin. There you will be welcomed by an open kitchen under the sky. Together we a local chef, you will be cooking your dinner with the products you have purchased at the market in the morning. In order to fully enjoy the night under the stars, the atmosphere will be completed with nice and romantic life music. There is nothing better good food, music with friends in a great landscape. After all, you will have the opportunity to camp in comfortable tents down the hill and explore the glittery sky all night long
